Short Bios:

Jenny Ingridsdotter is an ethnologist who has approached the concept of Anthropocene as an umbrella term that opens for discussions on various topics such as multispecies relations, imaginaries of culture/nature and the many power relations that are embedded in an anthropocentric worldviews. She will speak about her experience from teaching a course she and Sara Bäckström has developed at Umeå university. One key question for using the term, and also for developing the course, is how humanities can address climate change and environmental issues.

Roberta Pichierri is a PhD student in Political Philosophy at Scuola Superiore Sant´Anna di Pisa, Italy. She has worked with the Anthropocene as a scientific metaphor. The Anthropocene is a debated scientific metaphor, primarily investigated in the social sciences, that has stimulated a powerful imaginary strong enough to generate research programs in the hard sciences. The purpose of this presentation is to use feminist epistemologies of situated knowledges (Haraway, 1988) to critically interrogate the relationship between “anthropos” and the notion of “deep time” that this metaphor tells; at the same time, it will be observed how the intertwining of species theory and the birth of geology has evolved (Pievani, 2014).
