Smart Mattress Tested in Healthcare – Aiming to Prevent Pressure Ulcers

One of the first pressure-sensing mattresses for healthcare have been tested by staff and patients in two care facilities in the municipalities of Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik. The purpose of these mattresses is to quickly identify the risk of pressure ulcers and enable preventive measures to be taken.

Returns to Mid Sweden University as a research engineer

Stefani Rydblom defended her Doctoral thesis at Mid Sweden University in 2019 and has since worked as a researcher at RISE. She is now returning to Mid Sweden University in the role of a research engineer, where she will, among other things, develop positioning technology at the STC Research Centre.

Erasmus Trainee Explores 6G at Mid Sweden University

STC Research Centre is currently hosting Erasmus trainee Muhammad Danish, a mathematics and computer science MSc graduate from the University of Calabria in Italy. Muhammad is undertaking a six-month research traineeship, focusing on Semantic Communications.

New AI project aims to prevent cyberattacks on wireless networks

Cyberattacks on wireless networks pose a threat to businesses and society, with risks such as ship rerouting and flight delays. Now Mid Sweden University’s STC Research Center, in collaboration with the University of Vaasa in Finland, is developing an AI solution to detect intrusions.

Viktor successfully presented his licentiate thesis

On Dec 19, 2024, Viktor Döhlen successfully presented his licentiate thesis ”Enhancing hydropower with energy storage systems - Merging perspectives on inverter design and industrial application”. The opponent and external reviewer was Professor Massimo Bongiorno from Chalmers University of Technology.

Amanda investigates how trust can be created for AI systems

The focus is on developing safer and more reliable AI systems by analyzing trust in distributed systems. Amanda Ericson, PhD student at STC, participates in a research exchange with Chemnitz Technical University in Germany, a collaboration that deepens the research insights.

Develops lab methods for measuring chemicals in water

In the beginning of December, research assistant Julia Pedersen Fresvig from NTNU, visited STC Research Center in Sundsvall. The purpose of the visit was to meet Mid Sweden University's researchers Wei Zhen and Benny Thörnberg and to discuss the new lab setup that will measure chemicals in water.

How hydropower can strengthen and streamline the electricity supply

Hydropower is unmatched in storing energy for long periods and balancing the electricity system. Viktor Döhlen has researched how smaller energy storages, like batteries, can integrate with hydropower to balance the grid over shorter intervals and contribute to a more stable electricity network.

Interdisciplinary and development in a real-life situation. For ten weeks, students at Mid Sweden University have been working in project groups that designers and developers with needs that clients have asked for help with. On 12 November, they will present their solutions.
