Seminar series part 3: Power, democracy and culture for an inclusive society
The seminar series based on the anthology "Global Challenges – Local Solutions: Research for a Sustainable Societal Development in Northern Sweden" continues with perspective 4 and the question how we can create an inclusive and sustainable society in northern Sweden?
"Anyone who wants sustainable development cannot turn a blind eye to issues relating to power, democracy and culture. Knowledge of local conditions, both contemporary and historical, and how they are expressed is crucial for our understanding of the conditions for an inclusive and sustainable social development. in northern Sweden as well as in the rest of the world. At Mid Sweden University, there is research on these issues, research that does not just run with contemporary development ideals but stands on the sidelines, contributes with critical analysis and encourages reflection and reflection," says Katarina Giritli-Nygren, editor and professor of sociology.
The third seminar in our series explores perspective four in the anthology with themes of power, democracy, and culture as fundamental building blocks for sustainable societal development. In a time when economic inequalities are growing, racism is increasing, and anti-democratic movements are spreading, we need to critically analyze the social and cultural mechanisms driving these challenges. Research within this perspective at Mid Sweden University contributes to uncovering unequal power structures, fostering inclusive democratic processes, and exploring sustainable cultural expressions, both locally and globally.
Welcome to an inspiring day where we collectively reflect on how research can contribute to a just and inclusive future.
