Mustafa Nourallah receives prestigious award for international research in digital banking
Mustafa Nourallah has been appointed the recipient of the Hans Dalborg Award 2025 – a significant national recognition for both him and the doctoral education at CER.
The award citation highlights, among other achievements, that Mustafa Nourallah successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 2023, titled “A Tale of Two FinTech Solutions: Loyalty in Mobile Bank Applications and Initial Trust in Financial Robo-Advisors.” All four articles included in the thesis were published in international journals. Since completing his PhD, he has continued to focus on banking-related topics, resulting in further publications.
Furthermore, during his time as a doctoral student and beyond, he has actively participated in international conferences and built an impressive network for continued banking research with a global perspective. It is also emphasized that even before completing his doctorate, he was one of three editors of a U.S.-published anthology addressing the impact of globalization and information technology on digital business models. In addition, he serves as Vice Chair for International Collaborations at the Academy of Financial Services in the United States.
The award includes a prize of SEK 250,000 and will be presented at a ceremony in Stockholm on May 8.
“The award has been presented annually since 2016, and this is the first time it goes to someone from one of Sweden’s ‘young universities.’ It is recognition not only of Mustafa’s dedicated work but also of the research training environment that the centre has been able to build thanks to financial support from companies and organizations in the CER network. It is also proof that we have successfully established ‘Digital Banking and Finance’ as an internationally recognized research field at CER in a short time,” says Peter Öhman, Head of the Centre and Mustafa Nourallah’s principal supervisor during his PhD studies.
The Hans Dalborg Award is presented by the Stockholm School of Economics.
