Tell us about Soleiman Mohammadi Limaei.
I have a PhD in economics (forest economics) from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Umeå. His current position is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Mid Sweden University. He has been a Professor of economics (forest economics) at University of Guilan, Iran.
Describe your research.
My research interest is related to economics optimization, natural resources economics, forest economics, efficiency analysis of decision making units. I have a broad range of experience in optimization such as stochastic dynamic programming and risk management, game theory in timber market and land use allocation, goal programming on sustainable use of natural resources, data envelopment analysis for efficiency measurement of decision making units. In addition, I have experience on economics valuation of environmental goods and services. I published over 50 peer-reviewed research papers in various journals. I am also reviewer and editorial member in number of journals.
How did you become interested in this field?
Optimization is always interesting for me and it’s about choosing the best possible decision considering economics outcome and/or other objectives. With my background in natural resources and postgraduate education in economics, it is always my interest to use numerical data for solving complex issues to make better management decisions especially when there are different stakeholders with various and sometimes conflicting goals.
Why is your research needed?
May main research topic is about applying mathematical tools in economic analysis such as optimization techniques to determine the optimal resource management (i.e forest management). With an appropriate problem definition in any business and solving it through optimization techniques, the results in reality could be beneficial to the decision makers and society.
How do you allocate your time between research and teaching?
I mainly teach at the moment but I do research when I have time.
Dream scenario in terms of work?
The best thing about my teaching is to inspire and educate young people to achieve their potential and be beneficial to the society as a whole. In addition, the best thing about my research is to have positive impact to economy, society and environment.
