Tell us about your background
I am originally from China and currently, I am a doctorate candidate in tourism at the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain. My research primarily focuses on the intersection of tourism and sustainability through the lens of evolutionary economic geography, exploring how destinations can enhance their appeal and competitiveness while prioritizing ecological balance and community welfare. My work aims to bridge theoretical frameworks with practical implementations, contributing to the development of tourism practices that are both innovative and responsible.
Why did you choose to come to ETOUR?
My decision to join ETOUR was driven by its sterling reputation as Sweden's leading tourism research center, particularly its emphasis on sustainable destination development. During my time at ETOUR, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of sustainable tourism practices from a Nordic perspective, complementing my previous research and experiences. Networking with fellow researchers and industry stakeholders is another crucial goal, as these connections can spark innovative ideas and pave the way for future collaborations. One particularly enduring memory from my time at ETOUR is the cross-country skiing event organized for beginners interested in Nordic winter sports. This event exemplified ETOUR's commitment to fostering a collaborative spirit, not just in academic settings but through shared cultural and recreational activities as well. Participating in this event allowed me and other researchers and students to step outside our usual academic roles and engage in a completely different, yet equally enriching environment.
The experience was more than just learning a new sport; it was about building camaraderie and understanding among peers from diverse backgrounds. We shared laughs, challenges, and the joy of learning something new together, which enhanced our team dynamics and interpersonal relationships significantly.
