Aluminum Foil Coating with Graphene as Current Collector of LiFePO4 Cathode in Lithium‑ion Battery (ALGCC)
The aluminum current collector is a crucial component for various types of batteries. Al foil is used as current collector for LiFePO4 cathode in Lithium-ion batteries. While LFP is a suitable cathode material for rechargeable batteries, LFP cathode materials reveal low electrical conductivity.
Therefore, the Al foil current collector (AL CC) is coated with carbon. The surface coating of AL CC with carbon improves the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the LFP cathode. A better alternative for coating Al surface is graphene. Graphene provides the possibility to have a uniform coating on the Al surface and provides higher electrical conductivity for Al CC compared to other carbonaceous material. Thus, Al coated with graphene could significantly improve the Al CC efficiency for LFP cathode, thus enhancing the battery performance.
