RIDE (Resilient institutional design of welfare in the digital era)
RIDE is a research environment with expertise in digitalization, politics and public administration that collaborates on analyses and theory development on inclusion, diversity and competencies for sustainable welfare institutions in increasingly digitalized societies.
RIDE aims to develop theoretical and useable models for resilient institutional design of welfare in the digital era,
focusing on inclusion, diversity, and literacy. It will provide a shared research environment where case studies
are synthesized, theoretical models are built, and knowledge on resilient institutional design is shared. RIDE will
be organized around three platforms: an analytical platform to enhance and analyze empirical material, a
training platform to support scholars, policymakers, and the public, and a policy and outreach platform to cocreate
knowledge and enhance competencies.
RIDE will build upon the results of previous and ongoing empirical studies, both qualitative and quantitative, and
will also host new case studies throughout the program period. The synthesis of these studies will be based on
interdisciplinary re-analyses and theory development, using mixed method approaches. C omparisons with cases
from Eastern Europe and Western Balkans will support generalizations and contribute to models on digital welfare
beyond the Scandinavian model.
It is necessary to address the institutional and foundational models of the public sector and how to provide equal
and resilient welfare in a digital and changing world. The ongoing digital transformation of public welfare
institutions requires a gradual redesign, and it is crucial to identify values to avoid an uncritical and unreflected
transformation.
