The 17th Polar Law Symposium is organized around two types of sessions: lectures and seminars.
Lectures
Lectures are scheduled in 45-minute slots and should be 30-40 minutes in length, with the remaining time devoted to questions and discussion. Three keynote lectures will be presented, two at the beginning of the 24th September and one at the beginning of the 25th of September. These are invited lectures delivered in plenary sessions. Other lectures will be selected from submissions and will be delivered in parallel sessions.
Short Lectures are lectures with delivery times of 15-20 minutes and organized in parallel panels.
Seminars
Seminars will be scheduled in approximately 60 minutes slots and organized and led by a Convener, who will also moderate the session. Seminars contains of presentations of 15 minutes each, with the remainder of the time for discussion. Seminars will be selected from submissions and will be run in parallel sessions.
Themes
There are two main themes for the 17th Polar Law Symposium.
- Implementation of international minority- and indigenous law at national levels
- Governance, resources, security, and jurisdictional issues in the circumpolar area
Lectures and seminars will be organized with reference to these topics. All submissions should have relevance to Polar Law, broadly understood.

Abstracts should be submitted by April 20, 2024 with a maximum of 250 word.
All abstracts are to be in English.
