Writing tutoring
If you need support in writing academic texts, you can get it from the Mid Sweden University writing tutors.
Writing tutoring is intended to help you further develop your writing and should therefore be considered as a complement to the support given by teachers and supervisors (rather than a quick fix for writing assignments).
We can help you with:
- Finding a suitable academic style (avoiding colloquialisms or unnecessarily complicated language).
- Sorting out language matters regarding for example grammar and punctuation.
- Forming coherent sentences and paragraphs.
What we cannot help you with:
- Feedback on topic or content.
- Proofreading or corrections of the text.
Drop-in for students
Wednesdays during terms at 12.30–14.00 there are drop-in times available. During this time you can meet a writing tutor either at the campus library in Sundsvall or via Zoom.
Book tutoring session
As a student you can book a session with a language tutor either on campus or online by clicking the button below and finding a suitable time in the writing tutors' calendars. Time slots are bookable two weeks ahead. A maximum of one tutoring session per week is allowed.

Before tutoring session
- Specify as clearly as possible what you need assistance with when booking an appointment.
- Consider the type of questions you want to ask about your text during the conversation. Also, feel free to write down your queries and bring these notes to the tutoring session.

During tutoring session
- If a teacher or supervisor has already provided feedback on your text, it is helpful to have this feedback available during the tutoring session.
- Be active during the conversation and take notes; ask for clarifications if there are any uncertainties.
- Keep in mind that your entire text is unlikely to be processed in its entirety.

After tutoring session
- If additional tutoring sessions are scheduled, it is expected that you will have worked on your text between sessions. Therefore, review your notes and use them to independently revise the remaining parts of the text; do not wait until the next tutoring session.
- Remember that you are only allowed to book one tutoring session per week per person or writing pair.
