Theft and crime
Crimes such as theft, threats, destruction, intrusion into buildings are unwanted events that unfortunately exist in our everyday lives.
In our efforts to have an open and accessible environment, we also create the conditions for thieves. Theft inside offices is unfortunately a common occurrence. You can protect yourself from this by keeping an eye on the room and locking the door when you leave it – even for a short while. Opportunity makes the thief and it is up to each individual to limit that possibility.
Reporting a crime/incident
Theft, destruction or intrusion into a building must always be reported, even if it is a case of private property being stolen. This is so that the university can get an idea of the extent to which undesirable events occur.
In the event of a theft, you should always report this, which is done in two ways – a police report and an internal report. It is important that you have to file a police report yourself, as you are usually the best person to give an account of what has happened and answer any supplementary questions from the person receiving the report.
A police report can be made in two ways – on the police's website or directly by calling 114 14. In the event of a threat or a crime in progress, always call the emergency number 112. A police report regarding Mid Sweden University's property must always be reported against our organization number 202100-4524.
The internal report is emailed to lokalsakerhet@miun.se where you describe in the simplest way WHAT happened, WHERE this happened and WHO was affected. You will then be contacted for further questions and as a receipt that your report has been received.
Even if a theft has not been a direct threat to a person, it can cause anxiety and discomfort. Always report what has happened to your safety representative , who is trained to handle these situations and, if necessary, carry out relief talks.
