Aim
The purpose of this course is to give a historical survey of documentary photography, its emergence and development, in global perspective. A dual purpose is to address other significant photographic directions, in order to give a broad base of knowledge about significant currents, influences and practitioners that have had an impact on the medium of photography.
Course objectives
After satisfactory completion of this course, the student is expected to:
- be able to identify significant photographers, photographs, technology and movements in the history of photography.
- be able to analyze photographs in relation to their context and content.
- be aware of and able to discuss the historic trajectory of documentary photography and its relationship to other directions in photography.
- be able to research and write on aspects of photographic history.
Content
- seminars, readings and discussion on history of photography
- analysis of photographic works
- assignments focusing on analysis and research

Examination form
Course grades are based on writing assignments, written exam, as well as attendance and active participation in class sessions. ?
Attendance is obligatory at all seminars and exercises.

Grading system
Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
