Aim

The aim of this course is for the student to acquire knowledge and develop skills necessary for executing documentary projects within the photojournalistic field. The resulting proposal is submitted for approval to continue on to the Master’s Thesis. The course participant learns the process from idea stage to final product.

Course objectives

After completion on this course, the student is expected to be able to:
- create a project plan/Master thesis proposal
- develop strategies for realizing a documentary photography project
- interview sources and complete a text accompanying visual material
- create and evaluate a visual portfolio
- create annotated bibliography

- planning a project and evaluating documentary project plans
- strategies for creation of a project plan and budget
- interview techniques and writing exercises
- methods for developing and evaluating visual portfolio
- methods for creating annotated bibliography

Entry requirements

Photojournalism MA, 75 Credits, including Documentary project.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The teaching formats include seminars, workshops and exercises.

The course is taught in English.

Examination form

A passing course grade requires a passing grade on all exercises as well as attendance and active participation. Attendance is obligatory in all seminars and workshops. Absence and late assignments may have a negative impact on the course grade.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

Course meetings and exercises may take place during evenings and weekends. Any expenses for trips, materials and technical equipment are borne by the student.

Plagiarism is not permitted and will be reported to the Chancellor’s office.
