Aim

The aim of the course is for students to practice and apply scientific reasoning and methodology to a specific area of psychology. The course is conducted in project form where students work independently under supervision. The end product takes the form of a scientific report.

Course objectives

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • Based on theory and empirical evidence, formulate research questions and apply a research design.
  • Collect or compile, analyse, and interpret scientific data in relation to a problem statement.
  • Present the completed study in writing, in accordance with the APA manual.
  • Independently assess ethical aspects in the research process.
  • Analyse and evaluate own and other students' results in relation to their scientific value.

Content

Implementation of an empirical research project, which is reported in writing and presented orally.

Entry requirements

60 ECTS in Psychology including a minimum of 15 ECTS in research methodology.



Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Teaching activities mainly include seminars and supervisory meetings. The work effort for the entire course normally comprises 400 hours. This means that in addition to scheduled time, the student must complete extensive self-studies.

The examinations includes a written empirical report, oral presentation of the project, and active participation in compulsory seminars.
