Fine Dust Measurement FDM
Knowledge about the status of the air quality, lead to knowledge about uncomfortable or dangerous situations regarding the concentration of smoke, oxygen, loudness or other influences. To watch limits and react if neccesary is a contribution for a sustainable development of lifestyle.
Whats the project about
The topic “Fine Dust Measurement” is splitted into two parts:
Topic 1: Creation of a scientific movie, partly with slides, for the explanation of the special difficulties at the measurement of particles, e.g. fine dust. Especially the difference between mass-concentration and number concentration, the expressiveness regarding the health impact, the difficulty to use equivalent diameter for the calculation and so on. Examples like measurements near by a smoker should demonstrate the practical application of this knowledge. The students should come from a media-background with the ability to produce movies with no professional equipment (they use only mobile phones, private camera and so on) and Students from environmental background to find or create sources for fine dust.
Toipic 2: Further development of the measurement device. The aim is the creation and optimization of an Artificial Neural Network and the implementation into the software of the devices. The measurement rows for teaching of the Neural Network, we will bring with us. The students should come from fields like computer sciences, informatics, electrical engineering and so on.
Study Areas
In this project, we would like to serve two fields:
Topic 1: Experience in the creation of a demonstration movie and slides. Basics of physics, fundamentals in environmental and/or social- or health science would be perfect.
Topic 2: Knowledge about Artificial Neural Networks, Software like TensorFlow, python, html, application of raspberry Pi
Also students from additional subjects or interest:
Creativity, fantasy and happiness to work in an international team.
