Public defense of doctoral thesis in psychology with Niclas Almén

Summary

Poor recovery after periods of stress has been suggested to explain stress-related ill health. However, the number of studies on interventions focused on supporting stress recovery is surprisingly few. In addition, the number of validated instruments measuring behaviours relevant to recovery from stress is few.

Three studies in the present thesis aimed to evaluate the recovery intervention “balance in everyday life” while one study aimed at psychometrically testing a Swedish version of the Recovery Experience Questionnaire.

The results clearly indicate that “balance in everyday life” improves stress and health-related factors in a relatively satisfactory way among people experiencing elevated levels of stress in life. Regarding the secondary purpose of the thesis, good validity and reliability of the Recovery Experience Questionnaire is indicated.
