Best in Sweden at sports science | 2023 |

The Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as Shanghai Ranking, recently published the list of the world's top universities and departments in sports Swedish in 2022. NVC at Mid Sweden University was ranked as the only Swedish higher education institution among the top 100.

"We see this as an acknowledgment that the National Winter Sports Centre conducts sports research of exceptionally good quality, despite the fact that we are a fairly small unit. It shows that our team building is strong and that our research environment makes it possible to deliver world-leading research," says Glenn Björklund, centre director at the National Winter Sports Centre.

The National Winter Sports Centre has been on the list in previous years and maintains its place on the list, which includes the 300 best of all the universities surveyed in the world. GIH and the University of Gothenburg are among the 101–150, Karolinska Institutet 150–200, while Halmstad University and Linnaeus University are among the 201–300 best.

"There is fierce competition because we are compared with all universities that conduct sports science research and publish in international scientific journals. This is really big," says Glenn Björklund.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is an independent organization that ranks universities internationally. It was started by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with the original purpose of seeing how Chinese universities stood in the world. The criteria are scientific publication, research quality and international cooperation. Research quality weighs heaviest with a total of 70 percent of the total score.
