RCR develops crisis training for school staff | 2021 |
The Swedish National Agency for Education has commissioned researchers at the Risk and Crisis Research Centre RCR to develop a web-based training course to strengthen preparedness for any crises that may arise in preschool and school environments.
RCR's mission consists of several parts, with the aim of giving schools good conditions to handle a crisis. In the event of a crisis, it is crucial that crisis management starts as early as possible. By developing common working methods and practice, the organisation will have better conditions for handling an incipient crisis in good time. If several actors use the same way of working, contacts, sharing of situational awareness and information in the event of a crisis are facilitated.
A literature and research review is currently being prepared in the field of security and crisis preparedness. At the same time, the researchers are reviewing the web-based support that the Swedish National Agency for Education offers today. During the spring, a training material will be developed in RCR Simulation Lab together with teachers from school units in Jämtland. Finally, RCR will deliver web-based support material as well as online training to increase security and crisis preparedness in schools.
The work began in November and will continue until the summer of 2022. The project is led by Pär Olausson, Associate Professor of Political Science and Head of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Susanna Öhman, Professor of Sociology and Director of RCR. Gertrud Alirani, Ph.D. in Political Science, Olof Oscarsson, Ph.D. in sociology, and Vartan Ahrens Kayayan, project assistant in sociology.
