In 1997, Mid Sweden University took over the forest technician programme that had been held at the Northern Forest Institute since the end of the 19th century, with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences as the responsible authority.
For a few years, programmes and courses were offered in ecological production, natural environment and tourism, among other things. Here, the students had the unique opportunity to bring their dogs and horses with them to the boarding school. The activities in Bispgården were phased out during the summer of 2003 and the programmes and courses were moved to Östersund.
