Activities and workshops

Friluftsdagen offers a variety of free activities and workshops both on campus and around Östersund. Some activities are open and do not require pre-registration, while others have a limited number of places and you need to register.

  • Welcome to Exercishallen, House J to play badminton with ÖSIS, the Sports Association of Students in Östersund.

    Time: 13.15-14.45

    Location: Campus, Exercise Hall, house J

  • Come and try curling for free, you don't need any prior knowledge. Our dedicated instructors are on hand to help you get started, whether you're a beginner or have tried before. Equipment such as a sliding sole and curling ropes are available to borrow, and if you want to try wheelchair curling, wheelchairs are available.

    Practical information:

    • Bring clean indoor sneakers and preferably a helmet (bike, skateboard or skate helmet).
    • Dress in flexible clothes, preferably gym pants or similar.
    • Keep in mind that it is +4 degrees in the rink, but -4 on the ice, so feel free to put on underwear, a warm sweater, wool socks, gloves and a hat to keep warm.
    • Come and experience a fun and different activity together with colleagues and study buddies – we look forward to seeing you on the ice
    • The ice is entered at your own risk. Make sure you have accident insurance.

  • Welcome to a fun and addictive dance class where joy and energy are in focus. This dance class is suitable for everyone and will give the whole body a review. Each song has its own choreography, so the bud will also have to work! No prior knowledge is required – just come as you are and experience the joy and energy that dance gives and that we create together!

  • Welcome to a fun evening activity, playing football with ÖSIS, Östersund's Students' Sports Club.

  • STC HIIT 45 is high-intensity interval training where we do every other exercise, functional strength and every other cardio.

  • Try climbing at Östersunds Klättercenter/Östersund's Climbing Center. During the evening, students and employees at Mid Sweden University get free admission, free lending of shoes and pep and tips from instructor Rasmus at Östersund's Climbing Center. 

    For students who get a bloody tooth, there is also a special price on a monthly pass that evening (250 SEK instead of 500 SEK which is the regular student price). For this offer, you need to show student identification.

  • Join us on an art walk and discover the art that is around us on campus Östersund. During the walk, we take a closer look at some of the works, think about what it is that is being portrayed, what the message can be and who the artist is. If you are curious to see your campus from a new, creative point of view, you are welcome to join in!

    Running intervals 30 minutes total time. 10 minutes warm-up and intervals under 20 minutes.

  • Come and play table tennis in ljushallen from 15.15. No pre-registration is required. Rackets are available to borrow.

  • Book and join an energetic workout session at the campus outdoor gym!

    The workout session lasts 45 minutes and is aimed at anyone interested in strength training and fresh air. Whether you're experienced or a beginner, there will be exercises suitable for you.

    The instructors are Jonas Falgin, Certified Personal Trainer and Lecturer in Sports Science, along with students from the Sports Science program.

  • The Student Union has booked Gustavsbergsbacken on Frösön for students and employees at Mid Sweden University during the afternoon. Gustavsbergsbacken is the ski slope you see from the center of Östersund, it is located 10 minutes by car or bus from the center. Bus 1 towards Valla goes from the center of Östersund and stops at Hornsbergskyrkan, from there it is a 7 minute walk to the slopes.

  • Come and take a cold bath in the ice hole with the gang behind Storsjön's Cold Bath House. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced winter swimmer, you are warmly welcome to an activity that will give you refreshing energy. Here you can try cold bathing in a safe environment with company and guidance. Pack swimwear, towel, hat, mittens and something to stand on when you change (e.g. a seat pad).

  • Welcome to an inspiring and educational workshop on mental balance! In a world where stress and demands often take over, this workshop offers concrete tools and techniques to help you find peace and harmony in your everyday life. Through hands-on exercises and reflections, you'll have the chance to discover how you can restore your inner balance, increase your awareness, and deal with challenges in a more constructive way. Together, we explore ways to create sustainable mental health and find strength in the present.

  • A workshop on the theme of how we breathe and how you can use your breath to elevate your potential and become the best version of yourself!

    Sofie Jugård Löfgren, who runs the app Medveten Andning, is a breathing therapist, Ayurvedic health advisor, speaker, and coach. Sofie will give an engaging lecture combined with exercises where you'll learn about nose breathing vs mouth breathing, snoring, how to control your nervous system, sleep, concentration, stress, and much more. The session will conclude with a breathwork session that you can do seated or lying down. If you prefer lying down, please bring a yoga mat or a banket to lie on.

  • Yoga strengthens the body and helps you relax mentally. Classic yoga poses and breathing help you stretch and find balance in a way that unites both body and mind.
