Safety Committees and health and safety representatives
A safety committee is a consultation body between representatives for the employer and representatives for the employees.
The safety committee participates in health and safety planning, follows developments in safety issues and handles issues regarding occupational health services, health and safety action plans, planning or altering premises, work methods and organisation, the use of hazardous substances, health and safety training, and rehabilitation etc.
Central safety committee
The university director chairs Mid Sweden University's central safety committee, where the deans of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media and the Faculty of Human Sciences, the senior safety representative, HR supervisor, the respective unions, the health and safety officer, campus manager and student advocate are represented. The central safety committee is responsible for planning, coordinating and setting general objectives for health and safety management, providing information and training regarding health and safety, and issues relating to occupational health services. It also conducts follow-ups and has a supervising role, and initiates the necessary health and safety measures at Mid Sweden University. The central safety committee is part of the central liaison group at Mid Sweden University.
Local safety committee
Health and safety is taken care of locally by the local liaison group, where the employer, employees and students collaborate to achieve a good and safe work environment. Issues that cannot be solved on the local level should be referred to the central safety committee.
Health and safety representatives represent both regular and temporary staff. They serve as representatives in issues relating to health and safety and are appointed by the local union organisation. Health and safety representatives should work to encourage a good and safe work environment, monitor protection against health and safety risks and check that the employer meets the requirements set out in the Work Environment Act.
