    Decision

Decisions on the allocation of funds are made by the Pro Vice-Chancellor after consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education and the Deans.

    Financing

A total of SEK 10 million has been set aside for development. No special distribution between or within the faculties takes place.

  • Special investment in educational infrastructure

To facilitate the possibility of improving the infrastructure used for education, funds have been allocated during the period 10 September 2024 to 31 December 2026 to be used as co-financing for the faculties' investments.

    Applied by: Faculties

    Application sent torektorsbeslut@miun.se

    Background

A modern, appropriate and upgraded infrastructure is crucial for the good development of both the University's research and education. However, these are often large investments that can be difficult to bear on their own by faculties, centres, forums, departments, subjects or other parts of the university. To facilitate the possibility of improving the infrastructure used for education, the university management has therefore set aside funds as co-financing for the faculties' investments. Allocated funds are also intended to stimulate applications for external funding for infrastructure or discussions and agreements with external parties willing to co-finance infrastructure.

Unless otherwise stated, infrastructure is always meant to be used in education, even if in some cases it is also used in research activities.

    Purpose

The purpose of the university-wide initiative is to:

    • Give faculties, centres, subjects and departments the opportunity to upgrade and renew the university's infrastructure used in education
    • Stimulate external funding of infrastructure used in education

    Terms and conditions

    Funds can be obtained part:

    • by applying via the faculties for co-financing of infrastructure,
    • through strategic co-financing in the case of approved external applications or in agreements with external parties on infrastructure funding.

Applications for co-financing via the faculties are normally funded through this initiative with a maximum of 50% of the total amount applied for or agreed, and with a maximum of SEK 3 million.

When co-financing infrastructure through co-financing in the event of approved applications or agreements with external parties, it is normally required that the faculties themselves contribute at least 40% of the part the university is responsible for. Before applications to external parties are submitted, the available investment space must be checked with the Department of Finance and Planning.

Infrastructure means infrastructure that is used in education, which does not prevent it from also being used in research. Normally, infrastructure in this initiative does not refer to software or the like, nor personnel costs linked to infrastructure. Infrastructure linked to subjects, departments, centres or other groupings is channelled through the faculty that hosts the organisational unit or grouping.

Applications for infrastructure funds are planned so that they fit in with regular budget and forecast occasions so that the requested investments can be set against the year's loan framework.

If the faculties submit several applications at one time, they should be prioritised. The faculties must also state how much of the total cost they intend to finance themselves. Funds for strategic co-financing of external applications or agreements with external parties are made on an ongoing basis. A benchmark is that a quarter of the budget is allocated for each semester during the two years of the initiative and that at least half is used as strategic co-financing.

The faculties themselves decide whether decisions on submitting and being responsible for applications are made by the faculty board or the dean.

Prior to a decision, the available investment space must be reconciled with the Department of Finance and Planning, otherwise infrastructure is managed through this investment in the same way as other infrastructure investments.

Final applications from the faculties are sent to the University Management Staff (rektorsbeslut@miun.se).

    Decision

Decisions on the allocation of funds are made by the Vice-Chancellor after consultation with the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education and the Deans of the Faculties. The initiative is financed by accumulated surplus within the education's authority capital.

  • Mobility is an important tool for internationalisation. Mid Sweden University has agreements with universities around the world where employees can spend shorter or longer periods. Most of the partner universities are located in Europe, but the university also has partners in, for example, Australia, Canada, China and the United States.

As an employee, it is possible to apply for central mobility grants for a stay at a partner university. The International Relations Office (IRO) provides information and discusses various opportunities for mobility. IRO regularly receives applications for mobility grants within Erasmus+ and in special calls also for non-European visits.
