How to become more cyber secure – be vigilant for "red flags"
How can you identify what might be a fraud? And what should you consider when it comes to cybersecurity? During Cybersecurity Month in October, it's a great opportunity to think about these questions.
There are simple and concrete tips on how to protect yourself against online fraud and how to become more cyber-secure. ESCM, European Cyber Security Month, shows on its website, among other things, several short films where you get tips and advice on how to increase your cyber security.
A simple rule to follow is to be vigilant about "red flags", i.e. things that don't quite seem right. Here are three tips on things you can be vigilant about:
Unexpected requests
Take time to think before you act. If you receive a message from an unknown number or anonymous email address where private information is requested, you should consider whether it is from a serious actor.
Incredible offers
If it sounds too good to be true, it often is... Just follow the link and you'll get an incredible offer. Or? Again, if you are contacted from an anonymous email address or unknown number, think twice about whether it could be real.
Extremely urgent
You receive an urgent request to act quickly. Think about who is actually getting in touch, is it from an anonymous account or email? Should your colleague, friend or family member need help, they would probably contact you in a different way.
During Cyber Security Month, Mid Sweden University, Umeå University and Luleå University of Technology carry out a joint campaign with information, news and education. The goal is to create good conditions for a good cybersecurity culture within the organization.
