A Merry Christmas!
Mid Sweden University's University Director Louise Beskow sends a Christmas greeting to us employees - and at the same time reminds us of the important role of academia.
2024 has been my first year as University Director and I am both happy and proud to be part of Mid Sweden University. Academic freedom is one of the cornerstones of democracy and what we at Mid Sweden University do together every day is important for defending and developing these values. Through our education, our research and our collaboration, we contribute to development in our region, in Sweden and in the world.
What we do is becoming increasingly important and we should remind each other of just that, not least as we now approach the end of a year marked by major challenges in the world around us. War, climate change and increased political polarisation remind us of how fragile our existence can be. In times like these, the role of academia becomes even more important – to be a place for critical thinking, free conversation and new knowledge.
I am impressed by the commitment and expertise that exists in our organization and look forward to continuing to work to ensure that we in the administration are a strong operational support that provides the best conditions for our teachers. researchers and students.
Now that Christmas is approaching, I want to highlight the importance of taking care of ourselves and each other. Cherishing our relationships – with loved ones or other important people in our lives – and spending a little extra time on the little things that bring us joy and recovery, is something that many of us probably look forward to. Whether it's spending time with family and friends, taking a walk or skiing, reading a book, cultivating creativity through an interest, or just enjoying the tranquility, I hope you all have the opportunity to treat yourself to it during the holidays.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
