Tips for Increasing Response Rates
Course evaluation: tips for increased response rate
Practical tips
- Inform the students (orally and in writing) at the beginning of the course that it will end with a course evaluation, that their answers and views are very important and that their answers are important.
- Clarify the purpose of the survey and how the responses will be used:
Purpose of course evaluation: to evaluate the course based on the answers to the course evaluation in order to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement. The aim is to increase the quality of education. This leads to a deepening of the students' knowledge, skills and abilities as well as their scientific approach. This, in turn, leads to an increase in their skills, which helps to make them more attractive in the labour market. - Engage the students by being involved yourself: let them know that their answers are important and feel free to refer to the content in the previous point. Emphasize that a course evaluation can be seen as the individual student's most concrete path to student influence - they can influence and improve the education.
- Discuss the course evaluation of the previous course section:
- What strengths and weaknesses emerged and what changes have taken place.
- comments that have not led to changes, and also justify why no changes have been made. - Make it clear that the answers are anonymous and that the answers are not linked to the individual student at any stage.
- Remind!
- Schedule the course evaluation in Moodle, make it an assignment (must be in the afternoon on Friday of the last week of the course as the email goes out to the students in the morning of the same day)
