Canvas
Mid Sweden University has decided to introduce Canvas as a new learning platform. Here you can read more about Canvas and how the implementation affects you as a student.
Implementation of a new learning management system
During autumn 2025, Mid Sweden University will leave Moodle and switch to using Canvas as its learning management system. This means that all courses from the start of the autumn semester will be given in Canvas. There will be occasional exceptions, e.g. for examinations on summer courses given in Moodle.
Right now, in the spring semester of 2025, a few pilot courses are taking place in Canvas. Summer courses 2025 can be given either in Canvas or Moodle. You can see which courses are given in Canvas below.
If your course is in Canvas spring 2025 or summer 2025, the following applies:
- You can find Canvas via a shortcut on miun.se, under "Tools" or directly via canavs.miun.se
- You log in to Canvas on the web with your miun ID and the same password as you have for your regular miun account
- Canvas has a good mobile app that you download via Appstore or Play. You log in to the app by scanning the QR code that you find under your account in Canvas.
- You can see your course in Canvas for a while after you have registered for the course.
- If you need support in matters related to the management of Canvas: email Pukontakt@miun.se
Current news
In order for you as a student to have access to the course room in Canvas, you need to be registered for the course. It may take someone - a few hours before you can log in after registering. Note that multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Microsoft Authenticator is enabled for Canvas, for both teachers and students. This is based on increased demands for security in our systems.
All questions are referred to PUkontakt@miun.se
On this website, which can be accessed via miun.se/canvasinfostudent, there is ongoing information about the project. Feel free to spread the short address to the page.
Project timeline
Below is the planned timeline for the introduction of the new learning platform. At present, neither teachers nor students can log in to Canvas with their miun account.
In autumn 2024, the technical implementation will be carried out, where the system will be set up and connected to other systems that need to interact with the learning platform and logins for all teachers will be created. Then there will be different phases with early pilot users among teachers during HT24 (here a few students may be affected) and more pilot users during VT25 (slightly more students will be affected). From HT2025, all new courses will be created in Canvas, so then most students will be affected. From spring 2026, Moodle will be put into reading mode, which means that it is not possible to make changes to course rooms or create new courses, but only read content. Then all students will have Canvas as the learning platform they encounter.
Canvas is Sunet's procured learning platform and is available at more than 30 higher education institutions in Sweden, which facilitates collaboration and co-creation of learning resources and support both within and outside Mid Sweden University. Additional advantages are that there is good functionality to meet current legal requirements for accessibility as well as a well-functioning mobile app.
