Audio production
Sound surrounds us everywhere, all the time. It stimulates, amuses and disturbs, but above all it is there without us thinking much about it. Until it disappears. Even produced sound would leave a big void behind if it suddenly stopped.
Imagine a film without voices, music or mood-creating sound effects – it becomes flat, bland and difficult to access. Not to say boring.
It certainly sounds natural, but behind the sounds we hear on TV, radio, cinema, theatre and concerts, there is a lot of work to produce it from a purely technical point of view. If you are interested in sound and working with recording and production, then this is a topic for you.
You will learn how to combine sound technical solutions, effects and the use of computer-based tools. You will also learn how to use your analytical skills to understand how different recordings are constructed with the help of different tools, as well as how to add sound to films and record your own material. If you are a musician, you get the opportunity to develop and come up with ideas about how you want to perform your music and get more artistic freedom.
Sound production is located at Mid Sweden University at the Department of Electronics Design in Sundsvall. Many of the issues encountered in audio production have their origins in electronics and electrical engineering, which include sound technology, effects and the handling of equipment. We have combined these disciplines with disciplines such as acoustics and production processing of a recording project or, for example, a theatrical production.
Sound production is a subject that includes sub-disciplines such as psychoacoustics, sound engineering and sound creation. At Mid Sweden University, there is currently a programme, Music and Sound Design, which is based on the subject of sound production, but freestanding courses are also available at the undergraduate level.
If you study audio production, you will be well prepared to work technically with music and sound. The labour market includes the music industry, but also theatre, radio, TV and everything else that involves the recording and production of music and sound.
