Industrial Design
Today, design is an important competitive tool in the market. Form, design and function, as well as the company that sells the product, often determine the choice of one product over another.
As consumers become more skilled and demanding in their choices, so does the bar for companies' products and services. As an industrial designer, it's your job to give them a good design.
Good design appeals to the consumer and is often decisive in a purchase decision. Conscious work with design therefore significantly improves the chances of success in virtually all industries, something that more and more companies have begun to realize. The internationalisation of business markets also leads to products being developed at a higher pace.
If you want to be involved in developing the products and services of today and the future, industrial design is for you. Mid Sweden University's education to become an industrial designer includes both theoretical and practical tasks and gives you good knowledge of the actual creation process of a functional form. Here you will learn how to express yourself in sketching techniques while immersing yourself in form studies, computer technology, communication, production and construction methods. A large part of an industrial designer's work consists of analysing problems and then developing a good solution based on studies of how we humans function and act in different situations.
Mid Sweden University has developed a research lab for the field of industrial design where research on experiences of products is conducted. Studies of people's experiences are carried out by measuring, for example, stress, brain waves, ECG and eye tracking. We do this to gain greater knowledge about how we experience and are affected by different products and services in order to then be able to use it in the production of new designs. At Mid Sweden University, there are several collaborations and projects linked to the business community in the subject.
The demand for industrial designers is good today and they can be found in both medium-sized and large companies as well as in consulting firms.
The subject can be studied in the Bachelor's Programme in Industrial Design, 180 credits and is also included in the Master of Science in Industrial Design Engineering.
