Industrial Management and Economics
Industrial organization and economics can be summarized as studies of methods that aim to create value through the production and distribution of goods and services.
The core of the subject consists of the application and design of systematic methods to understand how different forms of value are created or lost in organizations, and how to use and create digital technologies to govern organizations in a changing world.
A large part of industrial organization and economics is about using and creating different methods to analyze problems in manufacturing and IT-based businesses, and propose solutions to these. As a student in Industrial Management and Economics at Mid Sweden University, you will learn how to use methods to manage the development and introduction of digital technologies, as well as how to create commitment and understanding of these in the organization. You will also learn how to analyse and lead IT-related change processes in organisations, as well as how to manage these changes in individuals and groups in the organisation. Furthermore, you will learn mathematical models for estimating costs, financial risks, managing uncertainties and analysing complex decision problems in order to find an optimal control of a logistics system or to identify an optimal product or project portfolio.
A special focus for the subject at Mid Sweden University is the analysis and management of change processes in industrial and administrative activities and how different types of information systems affect and are affected by change, as well as how these systems are related to the strategic and operational use of digital technologies. An industrial economist can, for example, work with change and project management, as a strategic purchaser or logistician, and as a consultant in management.
Courses in the subject of Industrial Management and Economics are offered at Mid Sweden University's campus in Sundsvall. Industrial Management and Economics is part of the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management programme. Some courses can also be taken as freestanding courses.
