Nursing aims to help and support a person and their loved ones in daily life in order to improve health, prevent illness and disease, and to restore and maintain health. The central concepts of nursing science are people, health, environment and nursing actions. The scientific subject of nursing aims to make care better, safer and equal for individual patients and groups of patients as well as for their relatives.
Research in nursing has a wide range and can be based on one of the main concepts of nursing; human, health, environment and nursing actions. Research has developed central concepts and theories at different levels with different variations that are unique to the subject. Nursing is linked to other subjects such as medical science, psychology, pedagogy, religious studies, ethics and behavioural sciences, social sciences and sociology.
Undergraduate and graduate education is offered at the campus towns of Sundsvall and Östersund. The subject of nursing is an essential part of the nursing education, specialist education and the master's education. Within the subject, freestanding courses are also offered at undergraduate and advanced level. Nursing can also be included as a supplementary subject for a degree in another main field of study.
