Swedish language
In the courses in the Swedish language, we mainly deal with contemporary Swedish, but we also get into the history, dialects and neighbouring languages of the Swedish language.
We also study how individuals and groups use language in different situations. You will receive good training in speaking and writing for your professional life.
The studies in the Swedish language at the undergraduate level, BA (A and B), give you an introduction to linguistic theory and method as well as basic knowledge of the structure and use of the Swedish language.
The programme develops the ability to analyse texts and provides knowledge of the craft of speech and writing. The courses illustrate language problems in a societal perspective and convey knowledge about the varying use of the Swedish language according to purpose and context. The individual's language development is studied, the historical development of the Swedish language, as well as dialects and names. There is also an introduction to the neighbouring languages Danish and Norwegian, as well as an overview of the other languages in the Nordic region. These studies end with a thesis course in which you present the results of an investigation (independent project) in written form.
Furthermore, you can deepen your insights into the subject with a third course, GR (C), which contains two parts in the form of a reading course and a theory and method course with a scientific paper. We normally offer both part-time and full-time courses at the undergraduate level. If you want to deepen your knowledge further, you can study the subject at advanced level (AV) within the Master's programme. This means two semesters of further study.
The Swedish language contains didactic elements. This means a connection between theory and practice, which is reflected in the course literature, assignments and discussions. This should be of benefit to both future teachers and those who have envisaged other professional activities.
Our courses are generally taken as distance courses with meetings in Sundsvall.
In addition to the regular range of courses, Mid Sweden University also offers shorter courses within the framework of the Swedish language. We also offer courses in Swedish for foreign students.
