Criminology
Criminology means the study of crime. As a criminology student, you will gain knowledge about crime and the causes of crime.
Criminology is an interdisciplinary subject, which means that the subject includes parts from other subject areas, such as sociology, psychology and law. The courses in criminology at Mid Sweden University cover areas such as criminological theories, crime prevention, addiction and victimology.
The research in criminology at Mid Sweden University aims to gain a better understanding of the causes and consequences of the different crime categories of our time. The research develops both basic research (e.g. theory testing and theory formation) and applied research. The aim of the research is to develop new strategies against crime and violence in order to reduce the consequences of crime and violence for victims of crime and society.
