Electrical engineering
Cars, appliances, smartphones, computers, buildings. The technical devices are everywhere - in our jobs, in our homes and in society in general. You will learn how the electronics behind modern technology work in the subject of electrical engineering.
Electronics design, measurement technology, automation, embedded systems, power electronics, the power grid and telecommunications are examples of areas that are included.
That a computer is crammed with electronics is a given, but how many people really think about the fact that most of the devices and technical gadgets we surround ourselves with are based on advanced electronic solutions?
Embedded systems that are not visible, for example in pacemakers and refrigerators, are one of the areas included in electrical engineering. Electric power and power electronics, i.e. the high current needed to deliver large amounts of power to motors and for energy production, are another. In addition, the project also includes the construction and design of electronic systems at circuit board level, communication systems based on fiber optics and wireless technology, as well as control and regulation technology, which are important topics for the industry in the northern region.
With knowledge in electrical engineering, you have a general base that opens the way to many different industries such as development engineer and automation engineer, consultant to industry or even technical infrastructure.
Electrical engineering is a central subject in several engineering programmes, including the Automation Engineer, Electrical Power Engineer and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering programmes, but also in several other programmes.
For second- and postgraduate education, the subject is electronics.
Mid Sweden University has a very strong research environment in electrical engineering, mainly in electronics. Research is conducted in sensors, measurement technology, embedded systems, electronics design, power electronics, fiber optics and semiconductor devices. The university has a close research collaboration with several reputable research institutes, universities and companies, both in Sweden and internationally.
