Geography
Geography is a subject where we study environmental and social issues in different parts of the world, both in cities and in rural areas.
The subject of geography emphasizes the interaction between people, society and the environment from a holistic perspective and how landscapes are shaped and changed. Therefore, sustainability also becomes an important concept in the subject.
The subject of geography encompasses both natural science perspectives and social science perspectives, where many geographical issues find their answers by taking both perspectives into account. Starting from a geographical dimension means that we combine studies of places, landscapes and regions with relationships between natural and cultural conditions. In geographical studies, the spatial perspective is central. This means that we start from how objects and phenomena or processes are spatially placed and arranged in relation to each other.
At Mid Sweden University, courses in geography are currently offered in teacher education and as contract education for primary school teachers (Lärarlyftet), as freestanding distance courses and courses within the upcoming programme on Climate Change: Politics and Social Development.
Geographers can, for example, work with urban planning related to climate change or environmental impacts, development issues related to agricultural development, urbanization, environmental protection issues or various sustainability issues in Sweden or internationally.
