Informatics
Digital services and software for computers and mobile phones can help fulfil people's dreams, visions and needs.
In informatics, you find out how this can be done, for example how you as an IT innovator or system architect can design new opportunities for the use of IT in different contexts. Many informaticians end up in leading positions.
Information technology (IT) is becoming increasingly important for societies, organisations and individuals. Informatics is the academic subject that focuses on this change being carried out with the greatest possible knowledge, insight and skill. It is therefore a question of how modern technology can be used in the best way to serve our needs.
At Mid Sweden University, we work with the subject of informatics based on social, ecological and economic sustainability. This means that we study information systems and information technology as well as IT-related processes in a variety of life and work environments. In addition, we create the conditions for the design of these, by teaching a sustainable methodology and approach to the design process. The work is primarily linked to two different research areas – critical information and value creation with the help of IT.
In the first, we look at information with specific quality and accessibility requirements in a specific area, such as industry. In the second, we find out how information technology can create value in different contexts and for different users, for example how it can contribute to increasing an organization's social sustainability.
Informatics can be the main field of study in bachelor's, master's and master's degrees at Mid Sweden University. A degree in informatics opens the doors to many tasks and professional roles. Informaticians can be found as IT innovators, IT strategists, system architects, system developers and system administrators. Informaticians often go to senior positions, although it is normal to start their professional careers with various tasks in system development and programming.
In doctoral education, there is collaboration on course development and course implementation with a large number of other universities and colleges. The teaching is largely problem-oriented, where you solve practical application tasks within the framework of the group work. Project and degree projects are often carried out in collaboration with companies, organisations and authorities. Some courses at advanced level may be given in English.
