Pedagogy
The main task of pedagogy as a scientific discipline is to describe, understand and explain processes of influence such as upbringing, education, teaching and learning within a societal context.
Advocacy processes can be found in preschools, after-school centres, schools and other educational contexts, but also, for example, in personnel work, treatment and information dissemination in health care, in club activities such as training and competition in sports, and in marketing. The common denominator is that education, teachers, parents, behavioural scientists, doctors, coaches and marketing contribute to pupils, children, staff and customers, patients, athletes, spectators and consumers being incorporated differently in social contexts. Specific research on preschool and leisure-time centres deals with care, development and learning.
The research conducted in the subject of education at Mid Sweden University deals with governance, evaluation, normalization, teaching, learning, and leadership, as well as digitization and cultural reproduction in specific contexts. The subject is an essential part of the teacher education programmes and is included as a main field of study in the Behavioural Science Programme, in the Master's programmes and in the doctoral programmes.
The demand for staff with pedagogical skills can be found in both the private and public sectors, as well as the health care sector, the education system, NGOs, private companies and leisure activities.
Mid Sweden University offers courses in pedagogy at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level. The courses can be included as a main field of study in a Bachelor's, Master's, Master's or Doctoral degree. Courses are offered as full-time, half-time and quarter-time courses. The latter give you the opportunity to combine professional work and studies. In addition, some special and continuing education courses are offered in the subject.
