Physics
Physics deals with the connections of the smallest and the very largest. What are the building blocks of matter and how do they interact? What determines the structure of the universe? Physics constructs models and relationships and tests whether their validity is limited or universal.
In our daily lives, we encounter a multitude of phenomena that can be described in physical terms: Why is water transparent? Why is it thundering? Why do the winds around low pressure and high pressure spin in different directions? Behind an overwhelming part of the technology we use are processes and relationships of a physical nature. By broadening and deepening our knowledge of nature, physical research creates new conditions for the development of society and our conception of the universe. Physics permeates all other natural sciences, including the medical and technical sciences, and occupies a special position as the basic science of the material world.
Mid Sweden University's education in physics is designed so that you actively acquire familiarity with concepts, models and methods in the various areas of physics. You will develop your experimental and measurement skills and practice problem solving, information retrieval, processing of measurement data and presenting your work and results. With an education in physics, you will be well placed to participate in and lead development work and research in industry and business.
Courses in physics are included in several degree programmes but can also be taken as freestanding courses. Physics can be the main field of study for a bachelor's, master's or master's degree at Mid Sweden University. Courses in physics can also be included as a supplement to a degree in another main field of study. The acquired knowledge provides a good basis for further studies in physics, science and technology and for teaching physics.
