Psychology
Do you want to work as a psychologist? As a psychologist, you can work with clinical work, in school with individual and group development, or with working life and health at individual, group and organizational level.
Or are you more focused on HR issues, work environment and the like? Or do you want to immerse yourself more generally in how we humans think, feel and behave in different situations, and how we relate to our social and physical environment?
At Mid Sweden University, you can study a five-year psychology programme, a three-year human resources and working life programme where psychology is one of the main fields of study, a two-year international master's programme in emotion psychology, or freestanding courses, both longer and shorter, at different levels and in different areas.
The basic building blocks of psychology education are areas such as learning psychology, cognition and emotion, personality psychology, social psychology, and developmental psychology. This knowledge forms the basis for application in various areas such as clinical psychology, health psychology, work and organizational psychology, sports psychology, political psychology and environmental psychology, which are examples of areas that we teach. In-depth studies can then take place in sub-areas related to these basic and applied areas. at master's level with a focus on emotion psychology.
In psychology, there are different theoretical approaches that span different scientific perspectives, and have the ambition to describe, understand and explain human thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Therefore, theory of science and research methodology are important elements of the teaching, which are brought to life by allowing students to try out different approaches through laboratory work and exercises. Overall, application elements are important elements, not least in the professional education to become a psychologist. Both the psychology programme and the human resource management and working life programme have clinical placements.
Our research spans fields such as emotion and cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, working life and health, social and organizational psychology, e.g. applied to issues of fear, pain, mental illness, trauma and stress, migration, prejudice and decision-making, etc., often with an emotional psychological perspective. We carry out surveys, qualitative in-depth studies, surveys and experiments, in the field and in our laboratory. We welcome our students to participate in our research through exercises and their independent projects, and we affirm a strong connection between education and research.
