"Challenges that compactness entails in high power single-frequency fiber amplifiers"
Both scientific interests and industrial applications have stimulated the advances of single-frequency laser technology. Their high spatial and temporal coherence facilitated many applications such as gravitational wave detection, high-precision fiber sensors, high-resolution spectroscopy, holography, and nonlinear optical conversion. Power performance such as hundreds of watts in the mid-infrared and tens of watts in the visible and UV for continuous (CW) operation mode and pulse energies up to several tens of mJ in pulsed operation mode are needed. However, nowadays, this is encountered in high footprint laser sources. Thus, there is a need for succeeding these laser sources in a compact format.
Compactness in this laser source entails various challenges limiting their power scaling. Therefore, this presentation will describe the investigated mitigation techniques that fit a compact design. Moreover, the results obtained in these kinds of lasers operating in CW and pulse mode will be presented, demonstrating their feasibility to generate high performance and minimal footprint, which may facilitate many applications in the visible and UV spectral range.
